Hoover Nextra HNF6167 stop light constantly flashing

My machine is about 7 years old, and although the quick wash settings work fine, if I try and do a longer wash either the AA40 or the 60 Colourfast the machine won’t start. All I get is the sound from the base of the machine (e.g. pump/drain) and the machine sounds like it’s going to go into spin but doesn’t. This happens for a couple of minutes, and then the machine stops, and the stop light constantly flashes. There’s no long pause between the flashes so I don’t seem to have an error code. Sometimes I can go through the two minute motions 6 or 7 times before the machine will start on the correct program. I’d be really grateful for any suggestions please!
