    Hello all..
Just a quick heads up for anyone who owns an Indesit IWDE126 Washer/Dryer.

We’ve had ours for just over 3 years, but only used it for the past year.

Put a wash on this morning, and left it to do it’s thing for a few hours (it takes forever).. Started to smell melting plastic and went to investigate. Kitchen and ground floor of the house was filled with smoke.. the machine has literally melted!!

My clothes were literally smouldering when i took them out.. most of them are ruined because they are scorched pretty bad, but the worst bit is that all the plastic inside the drum has melted and stuck to everything.

If I hadn’t been off work today, I’m pretty sure we’d have come home to a bad house fire and dead dogs!!

Anyone else had any experiences like this at all, or even just some advice?

    Thanks for listening 🙂

    Jim is right, contact Indesit.

Without knowing why it’s happened it’s really not possible to comment.

However, I among others often ponder the safety of running appliances unattended as noted here…

    http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/buyi … start.html

In short, leaving a washing machine or any other appliance running unattended is not a thing that we would generally recommend. It is a given with fridges, freezers and fridge freezers of course but, other than that, there’s really little call to do so other than for convenience or to try to save a few pennies.

Most fire services will concur with that assessment.

Put it this way, even although I have some of the most robust appliances available (at a price I could afford) in my home, they are not run unattended or on delay timers, ever.

I don’t care how good or safe they’re purported to be, I won’t do it as they are machines and, machines break, it’s only the “when” and “how” that is ever in any doubt.

Usually though, that would be at the most inopportune moment possible. You were lucky you didn’t leave it unattended.

    K.
