My De Dietrich hob sparker, which had long been defunct, got wet and now sparks incessantly. The oven seems to have stopped working at the same time. Any ideas on how to resolve this would be welcome.

First of all switch OFF your hobs electrical supply.
If you leave it the hob electrics will dry out naturally as long as you dont spill or wipe anymore water into it.
After about a week turn your electics to the hob back on and hopefully it should be ok and not have caused any damage,If you find that it no longer works then its time to buy a box of matches.
As for your oven,In what way do you mean by not working.
