ParticipantI am looking at the above Neff dishwasher.
Fault reported as tap light comes on sometimes, intermittent fault.
This is a machine with the impeller jug built into the side chamber.Following a reset and selecting a program the pump runs and after about 3 minutes the tap light comes on.
I have had a similar problem with another machine where small chip off the side of a plate caught in the non return valve caused the problem.I removed the pump and hose from the pump chamber and looked for blockages. I removed what appeared to be dental floss from the pump shaft and replaced. Still I get the same fault.
Following cancelling a program the sump retains about an inch of water in the bottom. If I start a program I get the fault. If I manually drain the sump completely prior to starting the machine will fill as it’s supposed to.Is an inch of water in the base acceptable?
Are these drain pumps known to give problems?
Is water in the base detected by the drain pump?April 10, 2014 at 1:24 pm #412244electrofix

this is one of the later pumps that is fed from a 3 phase supply from the board. to detect if the unit is empty the board senses the current going to the pump. so if its blocked the current stays higher due to the load and machine times out. unfortunaly these pumps wear and start to catch therby increasing current to fool the board its not empty

This machine is about 4 years old so would that be about the age you would expect this?

And much earlier as drain pump failure is commonplace.

Have you tried changing the reed switch ? Very common fault

The machine does not attempt to fill. On the earlier machines that use the impeller jug I have only known a fill problem when it overfills as it doesn’t sense the water coming in hence the tap warning light.
Would a faulty reed switch on this machine prevent the fill altogether and bring up the same fault?April 10, 2014 at 6:31 pm #412250Andy jones

Yes. Had one like this a couple of weeks ago, not saying it’s definitely that but worth a try

I already have a reed switch for this so think I might give that a try first before ordering the pump.

I have replaced the drain pump and the reed switch but the problem still exists.
Does anyone have any other suggestions what else could cause this problem?
Would something caught in the wash pump cause it to sense it’s not draining?
