ParticipantI’ve just replaced both hinges and runners on a Britannia large oven door and all seemed to go remarkably well except the spring now seems too strong. I open it to the horizontal as usual but it slowly creeps back up and slams itself shut. As I say, it all went together as expected, but it’s a lot lighter than before as I cleaned all the grease off at the same time!
Do these hinges need time for the springs to relax a bit?April 12, 2014 at 12:11 pm #412371electrofix

Have you fitted large door hinges to a small door?

:boops: I missed that.
However if it was me doing the repair I would question the spares supplier as the hinges would appear to be for a heavier spec door.
I own a Britannia range cooker and the doors do not snap shut until they are about three inches away from closed.Steve

There’s no choice in the Steve, they are what they are pretty much.
You get small and large door hinges and that’s it. That said, Ilve did make changes to them a few years back and it might be something to do with that but, if the correct hinges were ordered and supplied I expect any replacement would be identical.
But to determine if the hinges are correct, I’d need to know the model and also what hinges (part number) have been used to suss it out.

I guess it’s possible I have the wrong hinge so to clear that up, I have a Britannia 90cm e-line and yes, we’re talking about the large oven. Unfortunately the model label has degraded too much to see the numbers, but I bought it in 2000.
The parts are from ukwhitegoods, A02841 (hinge) and A46804 (runner).I know that Britannia have been selling 100cm cookers for a while now so maybe my part is for one of those. It looks identical to the parts I replaced, but the tension might well be different.
I find that if I hang a pair of oven gloves on the handle the extra weight is enough to keep the door open.
Thanks all for your comments so far.

I appreciate this is an old thread but I came across it whilst trying to find some guidance on changing the in chassis door runners on Britannia range cooker.
I can see the screw at the bottom of the door runner, but cannot work out how the top fixing works.
Please can someone advise on the procedure for replacing the door runners. I note the original poster had done this.
I have a 100 cm dual fuel range with the 60/40 ovens and the roller on the large door runners is loose and having changed the hinges I am wondering if it is the runner that is worn meaning the door does not close properly. With the door closed there is a lot of in out movement on the right side bottom corner that is not apparent on the other corner or the small oven door.
Thanks -
