ParticipantI Have a Fagor Fridge Freezer. Worked okay for 2 years. Moved house and the appliance is now located in our utility room, which is not heated. Temperature in the room in recent months has not fallen below 8ºC, though.
It worked okay for 3 months in the new location and then suddenly overnight the contents of the freezer thawed. Tried adjusting thermostat, switching off and on again and found it would only start by tapping the thermostat control. So it started but when it all froze up again it switched off and would not start again unless I tapped the thermostat control. Assuming this was the problem I got a new part and fitted it. Within 24 hours the same problem developed.
Help please,
Thanks

Hi Dundee,
As far as I have seen the Fagor refrigeration is desperately simple stuff with only two points of failure, the thermostat and the compressor and if you’ve already replaced the stat you’re only left with one conclusion really. There is an overheat/relay on the compressor that could possibly have failed but they’d generally either work or not and not be intermittent like that.
From what you’ve said I’d be looking at the compressor overheating and cutting out on the TOC, bad news and really not worth repairing as you’d be looking at the thick end of £200 normally to swap out a compressor and it sure ain’t a DIY repair by any stretch.

I dont know, sounds like the location may be too cold for it to work properly. Heat the room or move it inside for a bit to find out.

Thanks for the advice I’ll check them out.
Find it hard to think the compressor is overheating it feels warm, as a normal one should when it’s been operating. Also, another thing I noticed when I get it started by tapping the thermostat and then I immediately turn it down to a low setting, it cuts off and won’t start again by turning it up until I tap the thermostat again.
Any more suggestions, please.
Thanks
Ray

The thermostat could be faulty, either that or the room is too cold as Mark suggested. Move it to a warmer location and see if it improves, if not, replace the thermostat.
Come back and let us know the outcome 😀
Dave.
