    Hello

My on/off – start button has just stopped working. The On/Off side works fine but the start button to the left doesn’t.

I need to buy one of these I think:

I was hoping someone might be able to tell me how to replace the switch.

    Thanks in advance

First of all a model number would be a big help. Secondly, if your machine has touch buttons like those then it is 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain that the fault lies with either the pcb/module or the plastic facia has broken. I can honestly say that I have never changed the parts you linked to.

The main cause of this fault is people pushing the buttons hard instead of lightly touching them, it often leads to the tiny micro switch breaking off the circuit board.

    Hello
I don’t have the model number to hand. It’s an Aquarius model. They’re all pretty much the same.
I know what’s wrong with it and how it happened, I just need to replace the button/switch and was wondering how to remove the old one.
    Thanks

The Aquarius name has been used by Hotpoint for almost 20 years and covers many totally different models, they are not all the same. 😉

The buttons are not the switches, they are just two pieces of plastic that press against the tiny micro switches on the large ( expensive ) printed circuit board behind the buttons. I can guarantee that changing the part you linked to will not cure your problem. As I said in my first post, either the tiny micro switch has been broken off the circuit board or the rear of the plastic facia has broken allowing the circuit board to become loose and move away from the buttons.

To access those buttons the whole facia has to be removed and then the printed circuit board has to be split from the facia.

    Thanks for that. It’s a WF560.
Do you know how to take the top panel off?
I’ve located the 2 screws at the back and that released the back half of the top panel but the front is fixed solid. I’ve also removed the two screws from the draw and it still doesn’t budge!
I’m trying to diagnose myself so as to keep cost down. I was made redundant a few mths ago and I don’t have any cash to spare for call out charges etc 🙁
Thanks again for your help 🙂

It pushes back then lifts off

    Thanks for that.
I have the top off and the control panel off.
The start switch isn’t connecting to anything. Not like the on off switch, where there is a micro switch. It seems the micro switch has come away for the start button.
Do I need a professional to replace the micro switch? Can I order one and try it myself? Not sure how to split the board from the facia though 😕

    You could try Emw electronics.

You must have already split the circuit board from the facia or else you would not be able to see the tiny micro switches on the face of the circuit board.

The facia is the whole of the plastic panel that goes across the top front of the machine.

If the circuit board is still fixed to the facia then it is impossible to see the front of the circuit board or the switches.

I’m learning as I’m going on.
I’ve done all of that then. I just need to replace the micro switch.
Would you have any other advice on how to replace the micro switch?
    Thanks
    🙂

Re: How do I replace the On/Off – Start Button on my Hotpoin

First of all you or a friend needs to be very handy with a soldering iron, and used to doing fairly delicate work.

The micro switches on these are the tiny, square things with a small button in the middle. Sometimes you may find the displaced switch in the bottom of the machine.

Another option is to remove one of the micro switches from the five mounted in a vertical row on the left hand side of the circuit board.

Most people do not use any of the extra ‘option’ buttons so pick one you don’t use and remove (unsolder) that and refit it to the start switch position.

As already mentioned you or a friend will need a decent level of skill with a fine soldering iron to achieve this.

Bugger! I don’t sadly. Always willing to learn though. Best call in someone!
Thank you so much for the help and advice. It really is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Back again.

I was wondering, from your knowledge, what would you expect to pay to get this fixed?

I spoke to a couple of people yesterday, all said it’ll take about a week to get sorted and it’ll cost £10 per 15mins! and the call out fee of £50.

    Many thanks in advance

As Andy said above, send it to EMW 😉

Then stick it back in yourself.
