    Have a basic Indesit(Hotpoint)washing machine (WIE127).

Can’t get it to register that the door is shut so the cycle won’t start.

When it has run recently, it has stopped mid-cycle with a flashing ‘DOOR’ error message.

The interlock has failed before and I replaced it. Naturally thought the same, bought another but this time no joy.

The more I looked at it suggested it wasn’t the interlock. The door locks at the cycle start and unlocks if you reset it.

I also tested the old interlock and that works too.

So the problem is if I try and start a new cycle I don’t get the red ‘door locked’ icon so it doesn’t start.

I have checked continuity of the interlock cable from the interlock end to the control board end and that is fine.

I have taken out the control panel and inspected it. No obvious damage. I cleaned dust of it, cleaned contacts, removed and fitted all connectors several times to make sure they were making contact.

    Still no joy.

If I try and start a cycle, the door locks, but no lock icon. If I leave it, the display eventually shows ‘DOOR’ flashing error message.

If I turn it off, the door unlocks after a few minutes when the interlock bi-metallic mechanism has cooled down.

    Any ideas.

Resigned to buying a new washing machine – it is a good number of years old. But would be happy to try out suggestions.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

Check the motor carbon brushes. 😉

    Thanks,

Will look tomorrow. I’ve read another post suggesting the same. The washer is at least 5 years old and the brushes have never been changed.

I removed the back earlier but that shows the front of the motor – so fill have to look from underneath which will mean tipping it on one of its sides.

The last wash finished 10 minutes from the end (in the spin cycle) – so there will still be some water in the machine. How can I get that out?

    Cheers,

    Nigel

Do NOT tip it it anywhere. Remove the motor completely from the back to check the brushes. Tipping it up can leads to all sorts of other problems.

Drain the water from the pump filter first.

Don’t suppose there is anywhere that I could get brushes from on Easter Monday?

This is what my brushes look like

    Looks like they are gone.

We’re not surprised Nigel, we’ve seen 1000’s like it. Tomorrow you can buy new ones and by Wednesday you can once again hang the washing out. :clown:

Re: DOOR Error – Not an interlock switch problem

    Brushes purchased (£18)
    Brushes fitted
Door light icon lights and no DOOR error message
    Washing Machine works

Wouldn’t it be so much more sensible if there was a ‘BRUSH’ error message?

But then I guess, people wouldn’t throw away perfectly serviceable machines and buy new ones.

Thanks for the help everyone – wouldn’t have dreamed of looking at the motor brushes to fix a DOOR error.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

Even the slightest excuse for minor failings (like a broken door handle) and many are junked for the latest junk. Only the brave ask Google and then go to the trouble you have. 😉
