    I had a problem where the tag holding the brushes in place broke on one of them, causing the drum to stop rotating, but the machine finished the wash cycle. It was half out of its slot when I took the top cover off.

    I got some replacement brushes, installed then, but still no drum rotation, although everything else seems to be working.

    Can anyone please suggest the next course of action. Thanks.

    I guess you did release the brushes from their retaining lugs after fitting them so they make contact with the armature?

    I did indeed, my first thought was they hadn’t released, but I carefully withdrew one and it had. The other I can see in position making contact with the armature.

    When the brushes slip out of the motor, the contact to the armature becomes very poor and will cause the motor to run extremely hot. This can trip the thermal safety, which will shut the motor down.

    Remove plug from motor (with the machine unplugged), and test for continuity. The circuits are in pairs from the right hand end of the motor socket. You shoud get about 5 ohms across the armature with the brushes in place.

    Just tried what you suggested, the results are

    Pins 1&2 no continuity
    Pins 3&4 2.2 ohms
    Pins 5&6 6.5 ohms

    Does this mean the motor needs replacing?

    Terminals 1 & 2 I think you’ll find to be the Tacho circuit and therefore should read around 1.7 to 2 ( on K-Ohms scale 😉 ) So even if those terminals were open circuit the motor should run at full speed on switch on 😕

    I suspect a motor plug connection problem or indeed problems with the Timer/Module Unit 🙁 Tell me, what is the first 2 digits of the machines serial number (on the door) that will at least tell us what type of Timer and Motor are fitted to your machine 🙂

    First two digits are ’95’.

    The ‘clip on’ Module on your machine may well be at fault? The suspect area being the white terminal plugs from the motor to the Module. Known ‘dry joint’ problems around there 🙁

    Be real gentle disconnecting that beastie in order to inspect 😯

    When you say ‘inspect’, what exactly am I looking for. I’m somewhat of a novice in these matters.
