ParticipantHi there,
I have the above machine and it’s no longer spinning. It is draining.
Before I bite the bullet and get a repair man out (or, horrors, buy a new one) I want to check the pump filter but it’s not on the front and I’m not sure where it is at the back. Do I have to take off all the hoses that go into the pump?
Thanks in anticipation,
Liz

The filter is in the sump hose (Large black pipe from pump to tub). Motor brushes would be the simplest cause to start with though or blocked pressure chamber (White plastic pipe which runs off the sump hose)

Thanks Nige
In the end I managed to get the black pipe off but there was nothing there. I then disconnected the sump thing from right under the tub. There was actually some kind of filter in there, it was a basket and a white ping pong ball.
I think the pressure chamber you mention was running off that. In there I found a 20p piece and a 2p piece (worn down to the size of a 1p bit…. who knew coppers weren’t copper any more!) a couple of tacks, a piercing barbell (one of the kids has obviously been making holes in themselves which I didn’t know about) and various hair elastics.
I’ve just reassembled it and I’m waiting to see if I have any leaks or not (quick wash programmes have some uses) before putting it back properly. If no spin then I’ll check out the brushes. Because the machine is made to be as inconvenient as possible, it looks like I’ll have to completely strip it down to get the motor out.
Question is, how would I know if it’s the brushes or not? Do they change if they are bust? (bear in mind I am very non-technical!)
Cheers,
Liz

Remove a carbon brush and see that they wear very badly and from the symptoms you gave are the problem. New brushes the way to go !

heh, well I noticed a lack of noise from the machine and sure enough, the final spin light is flashing and I have some very soggy towels. I will gird my loins and dismantle the effer to check the brushes.

As a quick update, seems neither the pump nor the brushes were the problem. What seemed to be happening is when the machine went to spin the door interlock stopped functioning so the machine wouldn’t spin. This infer might be useful for others having similar issues.
