Washer drier is fusing the electrics

My elderly aunt has a washer drier which we suspect is responsible for fusing the electrics in her house every time it is switched on. It isnt a very old machine, although out of guarantee. Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost to be repaired. It has been suggested to us by an electrician that there may be a slight water leakage which is causing the problem.
