Our 8-yr old hotpoint washing machine has stopped heating water, and we have decided to buy a new more efficient machine rather than repair it. We have always lived and used it in hard-water areas.

Initial research suggests a Bosch, particularly because of low water useage, good build quality, energy efficiency etc.

However, how can we identify country of manufacture from the serial number ? (we would like a german built model)

Any other comments re proposed purchase welcomed.

    Thanks.

Difficult to answer exactly. Legally, they’re only allowed to put made in “EC” on appliances these days. However, with regards to Bosch the cheaper “base” models will be Spanish; the higher spec machines will be German.

I have seen Bosch appliances in Comet where the German models do have “Made in Germany” stickers added on the front panel.

Best bet would be to find one you like the look of and post the model number up here – someone will know where it comes from!

Re: serial numbers to identify country of manufacture

    Thanks

We will probably go for either a WFO2466GB or a WFO2866GB, unless we can get a really good deal on a WFX2467GB or WFX2867GB.

I am tempted by the nearly halved noise and approx 300litres of water saved per year of the last 2, but am not prepared to pay an extra £100 for those benefits.

Given that the nominal service life of a washer is 7 years, realistically you’re looking at an extra £14 per year for what you really like. Worth it?

Of the 4 you’ve listed, the WFX2467 is probably the best bet. 1200 spin is perfectly adequate and has extra options, as well as the noise and water efficiency which you have already noted.

A quick search on Google showed it available for around £305.

    Hope that’s some use,
