ParticipantMy JLWD1404 began making a loud noise during drying (it was set on time dry) and after I turned the machine off and restarted it, it would not dry at all, whether on time dry or automatic dry. I have cleaned the condenser, and removed lots of rubbish from the fan housing and fan blades, but the fan will not start even though it runs freely (but the bearing doesn’t feel in great shape – I’m sure the noise came from the fan). The drum rotates, and the water for the condenser flows correctly, but the timer does not change. I suspected the fan motor at first (I haven’t tested it yet) but I’m puzzled as to why the timer does not move. There doesn’t seem to be any heat either, although I’m not sure where exactly the heater is. I’d be grateful for some advice as to what the fault might be.

Right there where you were, right next to the fan you took apart. Big silver box with several thermostats attached, you can’t miss it. (……but then you must have I suppose otherwise you wouldn’t have asked. :D. 😉 )

Thanks. I should have been more precise. I knew it would be in the silver box somewhere, but last night I didn’t know which of the 10 wires connected to the silver box were the heater wires. In the cold light of day it must obviously be the two brown ones at the front. I’m puzzled as to why it needs so many thermostats.
Does anyone know why the timer and the fan don’t switch on, and why I don’t see an error code?

Temperature control, overheat protection and warm air sensing

The timer could be faulty? The overheat protection may have tripped? The warm air NTC sensor faulty? The cool air NTC sensor also?

I left the machine unplugged all night, and this morning (still unplugged) I thoroughly wiggled as many connectors as I could reach. I switched it on and it behaved perfectly through a short wash and an automatic dry. Horrible noise from the fan assembly again, so I disassembled it and found a cement-like accumulation of lime scale and fluff behind the fan. Impossible to remove the fan itself to clean behind, so I’ve ordered a new fan assembly from your excellent shop. Many thanks for the information and advice.
