    Hi,

I have a aeg condenser tumble dryer which is a heat pump efficient type.

Anyway it is out of warranty and the tumble dryer is intermittent, you select a drying program and it will start the program up and then end it with in a minute and the dryer will reset to 0 minutes.

If you mess around for a while and turn it off and on it eventually will perform the full cycle. I have had a engineer out to try and repair the item and he replaced the PCB but it had no effect.

The repair company basically gave me a contribution to a new machine and have washed there hands of as they have no technical details to help repair.

Is there anything else it could be, is there a moisture sensor of some type in this machine I can only seem to find a temperature sensor, is this the same thing.

It seems to be a waste to throw the machine away and I can always select the time on manual and it completes no issues. It just seems to be some sort of sensor to me which is making the program terminate prematurely.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Many thanks

    Karl

    Hi Karl,

Do you have a note of the PNC number from the rating plate?

Essentially your dryer is kinda like an aircon unit in reverse, a heat exchange where instead of cold air pumped into the dryer heat in pumped in and cool air expelled. A similar heat exchange is employed in refrigeration in the opposite direction.

Mechanically they are not really all that complex but, the components to fit inside the space allowed are very dense as you also need a good bit of airflow.

A lot of people, including within the industry do struggle to get their head wrapped around it and how that they work. Refrigeration engineers and especially those that have worked on heat pump aircon units, not so much.

The prime culprits for what you describe would be the refrigerant compressor cutting out, either through overheating or stalling or, as you surmise, a sensor giving an incorrect reading.

    But, back to airflow.

This is absolutely paramount in these machines and if the machine is blocked in any way whatsoever (including where you cannot see) it will fall down just as you describe.

I need the PNC to look at the actual version to see if anything jumps out. I don’t think it will and I believe that it will come down to one of the above but many of the repairers are as yet unfamiliar with the technologies which is likely why you’ve had an issue.

    K.

I’m surprised an error code didn’t show when it stopped? Something like E32 maybe?

The difference between timed dry and sensor dry is that (and the clue is in the wording 😉 ) the latter is reliant on the sensors in order to work. So I’d take a look at the carbon brushes that make contact with the drum. No contact, no sensing going on!

Re: AEG. T59840 TUMBLE DRYER PROBLEM

    Thanks for the replies,

There are no error codes on the machine, when it stops it continues to occasionally turn the drum for the anti crease so I’m thinking the machine thinks everything is ok and has just finished the load

I bought the dryer of eBay used ( first and last time I buy a used electrical appliance) I found it odd that the PNC sticker has been removed from the front of the machine near to the door.

I could open the top if it would help to get the PNC as the sticker inside the machine was not removed.?

I have had a good look in the machine inside and out and there seems no obvious blockage of airflow, all the filters are clean and the compressor fins are clean too.
