Ok new here a little help please
we have 10yr old smeg side by side frost free self defrosting fridge freezer last night it decided to completely defrost and fridge is warm too, the compressor is running constantly and the fan is working, I removed the inner panel of the freezer to see some fins and pipes there is no ice build up , but I noticed two thermostats linked together clipped on to one of the pipes , one stat was in half and the other was raised out of its housing, would I be correct in thinking this is the problem??

Hi Steve,
Unlikely.
That’s a Maytag unit if memory serves and from the sound of what you’re saying I’d bet on a compressor failure. Without looking and digging into the unit it’s really not possible to be certain but what you describe points in that direction.

Ok that’s not what I was hoping , the compressor is running and I move the freezer thermostat to 0 it stops
The stats do look bad, I thought it was stuck in auto defrost?

If it was stuck on defrost the freezer would get warm.
