KeymasterHi I have an electrolux built in double over Model EOD 984. While using the fan oven yesterday, the MCB tripped out. On resetting it the fan turns OK but there is no heat. If I try the coventional oven or the top grill element it trips the supply straight away. The small top oven works fine. Have you any idea what may be causing this fault please?
Thanks very much

hi
It may well be that one of your elements has failed and now causing an earth tripping your electrics, you will need a new element but which one an engineer will be able to advise.
have a look in repairs@ section and a engineer may be able to help

Well, the fan element has gone/blown that’s for sure, although this wouldn’t explain the trip blowing when the conventional oven is switched on as it would also “trip” the MCB when you attempt to use fan assisted mode.
My only thought on this is that the base element may have failed to earth as well but as you probably don’t use the conventional mode the problem never highlighted before.
If the grill has been OK up until now, that one should be OK.
Dave.

Hi Dave and Bryan,
Thanks very much for your very quick replies. I will check the elements soon and let you know what I find. I am a field service engineer, but not on white goods, and my son is an electrician so between us we should be able to locate the fault. The oven is just under five years old so I am not sure if that is the typical lifespan of these elements. As you say Dave it may well be that two have blown. Thanks again, Paul.February 21, 2005 at 9:42 pm #126728clivejameson

…and on the bright side, the elements may be switched on the neutral side in which case if just the fan element is earthing then the oven will trip whichever mode you select! 🙂

Hi just to let you know that I have now replaced the fan element in my oven and all is working fine. It was clear when access was gained to the element that it was blown and when removed it reads open circuit across the contacts but only 430 ohms between the neutral side and earth. Thanks again for all you help and the last comment from Clive,
Cheers Paul. -
