ParticipantMy WD640 is leaking from the back of the soap drawer. There are four hoses (3 black and 1 gray) attached to the back and it’s the gray hose that’s leaking. My initial thoughts were that the hose had become loose but when I removed the hose to inspect it, I noticed that the inlet it was attached to seemed to be blanked off. The inlets that the black hoses are attached to all lead to different parts of the soap drawer but the inlet that the gray hose is attached to doesn’t appear to go anywhere. This has made me question the purpose of the gray hose and led me to wonder whether water should be going up the hose at all. I should also point out that it only happens on certain cycles. So far I’ve had it happen on cycle C but not K. I can’t find any information about this anywhere so would be grateful for any help.
Thanks

The grey hose is for the dryer condensing cycle, the valve is not blanked off, what you can see is a flow restrictor as the dryer side only needs a trickle of water running through it.
PS, I would call the four nozzles outlets, not inlets. 😉
May be the grey hose has chafed through somewhere?

Thanks for the quick reply. There’s a lot of water coming out of the grey hose where it joins the drawer. I’ve tried to make sure the fit is tight but it doesn’t seem to help. A couple of segments near the end are white-ish as if they’ve been stretched and since there’s plenty of slack in the hose I plan to cut off the end 1cm or so and try re-attaching. I’ll let you know how I get on tomorrow.

Are we talking about the grey plastic hises as opposed to t5he black rubber ones?
AFAIK the grey hose or hoses as some machines have two in them don’t go to the soap dispenser drawer but should go along the back of the machine, either to the small filter at the top of the dryer condensor or a little lower down into the back of the drum. 😕
These hoses should be either 41 or 55 cm’s long.
You will find it very difficult to seal the plastic hose if you remove the moulded rubber ends.
Was this machine new to you, have you had any repairs done on it? Some mods were made to the valves, some machines use a triple valve and some a quad valve.
Can you post a picture of the valve and hoses?

This is a picture of the soap drawer. The grey hose is where the leak is. The water is coming out of the end of the hose.
This is the other end of the hoses (not sure if this is what you were asking for)
You can just about see that this end of the grey hose has a molded rubber end as you described, whereas the end attached to the soap drawer doesn’t

btw the machine was new to me and has had no mods afaik, certainly not in the last 4 or 5 years during which time it’s worked perfectly

Forgot to mention earlier, surely this machine is a Hotpoint? Even though a lot of it is from Indesit.
Can’t view those images, they keep timing out, due to an error at printscr. If you reduce them to a smaller size you can post them direct to the forum.

Sorry, I’m new to all this
Here are those images
and yes, you’re absolutely right. It is a hotpoint. I’ve no idea why I thought it was an Indesit.

That machine has been butchered, that hose should not fit on the drawer, it should run along the back to the dryer assembly.
Along with the other grey plastic one you can see lower down. On some machines one of the valves was disconnected as part of a modification but usually just needed the wiring plug leaving out of the dryer filter flushing valve whilst the hoses stayed in place.
If you look at the back of the dryer assembly you may see where the other end of that hose was originally fitted.
Earlier when you mentioned inlets you must have been talking about the inlets to the back of the soap drawer, I thought you meant the four valves, that one is blanked off because it does not have any hose fitted to it unless a bodger has been at it.
A simple fix is to remove the small wiring plug from the valve that grey hose is fitted onto.
Someone has been poking around inside. :rolls:

This is where the hoses should go.

That’s interesting. When the machine was new and under warranty (about 9 or 10 years ago) we did have problems with noise on fast spin. The engineer said it was something to do with the dryer and he replaced part of it (no idea which). That’s the only time anyone’s been into the machine as, apart from that original problem, it’s worked perfectly ever since. Are you saying that the engineer reconnected that hose incorrectly? If so, I’m amazed I haven’t had any problems until now.

You have been very lucky, he has cut off the moulded rubber end of the pipe and just forced it onto the back of the dispenser. If the dryer is/has worked fine then do as I suggested. Locate the valve the incorrectly fitted hose goes to and just pull the plug out, it is OK just to let it hang loose as it has no exposed contacts. That hose was used to flush the dryer lint filter but it didn’t work that well so the valve was often isolated but the hose should have been left in place or removed altogether.
Noise on fast spin was often caused by faulty dryer element coming loose. The whole dryer side had countless modifications over the years.

I’ll do just that. Thank you so much for your help.
