ParticipantLooking on pcb repair section I’ve got a dead Whirlpool to repair. Could you tell me where you are buying your resistors from, and how you identified it as being a fusible type? Thanks in advance.

Farnell do them 😀

Being able to Identify resisters as a fusible type is something that comes with experience however a couple of pointers for you are:
- If it is directly in-line with the mains input to the machine (especially if it is part of the low voltage power supply section).
- If it has a matt coating as opposed to the normal gloss coat
- If when it is blown you can see a white cement under the top coat
Fusible resistors aren’t always listed as “Fusible” on websites, you have to look at the data sheets where it may say “Fusible” or “Flameproof coating” or “Failsafe”. To give you a start for reference these ranges are fusible:
- Welwyn ULW
- Welwyn EMC2
- TE Connectivity FRN
- TE Connectivity EP
- Vishay AC0….CS
You can get them from Farnell, RS, Mouser etc
Looking at my purchase historys it looks like I may even be using 1W :eeek: 22 Ohm resistors but I haven’t had any call backs so they must have been OK. RS part No: 762-9352P

Thanks Jem. I have read a few data sheets and noticed the listings, but was wondering about the Matt finish. Will order and have a go. Don’t know if the chip is some kind of a switch mode power supply, haven’t looked at that yet. Funny I only looked at your post last week and got one to do this week! I see I’ve put 22 watt in the title as well, it should be 22 ohm in case anyone reads it wrong. Thanks again.

Technically it’s a buck converter but yes it is a form of sips supply, designed to be used instead of an X2 class capacitor supply.
