I have provisionally booked an engineer for Friday morning. I live in Peterborough. He is SJ Refrigeration and has ad in yellow pages and on yell.com. Anyone know if he is any good or can recommend anyone – I don’t want this to cost a bomb!!!

Usually will be a freezer thermistor. Not a big job. Have you tried your postcode in the repairs@UKwhitegoods by clicking on the red toolbox on the home page?

Have found the model no – it’s R134A. The temp on the freezer has now risen to -17!! What is the safe range?

The freezer should stay frozen if you leave the door closed, the fan mainly circulates to the fridge, it will have a small effect on the freezer temperatre as well though.
If it goes above -15 C and keeps rising then it may well be a good idea to remove the food and put it in a neighbours freezer if they have any space.

Where is a good place to buy mail order parts online – my husband will probably want to try fitting it himself before paying an engineer 🙄

I would let the engineer you booked have a look to be honest, we can only assume one of the thermistors are at fault so purchasing one may be a wasted expense should it turn out to be something else.

Hi folks
We have just had the problem fixed. It was indeed the thermistor (part no 2601683). The man was here about 1.5 hours. He defrosted it with a hairdryer first then replaced the part. The total bill was £75.00 (no breakdown on the invoice so don’t know labour charge etc) Does this sound like a reasonable price? Just for future ref really -
