Hi,
I have a Whirlpool American style, side by side fridge freezer (FRSB36AF20/2). Earlier this week large quantities of water started to come out from under the unit. Turning off the water supply stopped the leak.
I have taken off the lower panels at front and back and turned the water back on. The water appears to be coming from the rear of the water filter housing (not from the filter or where the filter connects). I have attempted to remove the housing by undoing 2 screws at the front of the unit but because of the chassis it can’t be removed. Is there an easy way of gaining access to this area of the fridge other than laying the unit on it’s back or side (not easy to do and probably not great for the coolant system etc).
Also is this a common fault and any ideas as to what may be leaking and how to test/get access.
Any tips greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: Managed to persuade the lower chassis down and remove the water filter housing. The rear of the housing has gone brittle and the lugs that hold the filter securely into the connection have broken off hence the leak. Photo attached.

It is possible to bypass the filter by connecting the hose directly to the water inlet valve thereby saving you a large wedge of cash on a new filter housing.
If your tap water is drinkable the filter is not needed.
My 21 years old old whirlpool (USA built) doesn’t have a water filter and the water tastes fine.
