Participant(Long – sorry!).
As you can see from the title, not a cheap machine, a make with a good reputation and bought from John Lewis, so I don’t think that I made too many mistakes there.
Worked very well – for 2 washes! Then, at the end of the washing phase, pumped out, bit of a spin, fill – pump – fill – pump – fill, churn – pump – fill – you get the idea. Stopped it, spin, set in 3 rinses. It did rinse – pump – spin – fill – rinse – pump – fill – pump – …!
Engineer came, no fault on Test, replaced level switch (recall notice on that).
One good wash, back to intermittent pump – fill but with a twist: now after first rinse. After the initial pump-out the pump stops and then should start as the spin starts – it doesn’t. This results in the residual water being entrained in the (slow) spin and foam being generated.
Eventually I took to stopping it and setting the rest manually.
Two more visits by BSH’s ‘engineer’ with no cure.
Rang JL’s Tech. Services yet again, Siemens wouldn’t play. JL suggested that I videoed it. I did this, rang JL again.
Now for the only good bit in this sorry tale: JL rang back as promised (Curry’s learn!), said that Siemens wouldn’t take back the machine as no fault had been found, video evidence – not interested. JL agreed to take back the machine and provide a replacement or refund at its own cost.
Although I feel guilty about JL’s loss, I’m very impressed by the service.June 30, 2014 at 11:06 am #415953don

Hi
I’m surprised BSH didn’t investigate further.I have to say that they are one of the better manufacturers to deal with. I have ever only had to request two exchanges for customers in over fifteen years of stocking their appliances. Dealers have an exclusive line to sort these issues should the need arise. Whether JL did no one will ever know.
What did Currys have to do with this purchase anyway 😕
I’m glad you have resolved the issue and can now move forward with a replacement.

I think the OP was alluding to Currys lack of customer service compared to JL. 😉June 30, 2014 at 4:52 pm #415955Peter57

Yes indeed!
As for BSH, the chap was allowed 30 min. to find a fault that happens about 1h 40m or longer into the cycle, so not much chance there.
It seems to be that absence of evidence = evidence of absence, i.e. no fault found is the same as no fault present. The fact that the machine doesn’t work properly… -
