    I have a Stoves Range cooker that we bought earlier in the year with induction hob and A rated.

    We noticed not long after installation that the cupboard adjoining the right hand side oven was getting hot and when we pulled the oven out the exterior panel was so hot you couldn’t keep your hand on it.

    We’ve had Stoves out to it 4 times now and they claim theres nothing wrong with it and it’s normal and that the side which is classed as a occasional touch zone is within guidelines – the side was 76degrees when he tested it after 20 minutes of running, the cupboard was 36 in the cupboard, this is heat build up from the oven and migrating through a 18mm dense chipboard cupboard wall.

    Is this normal?

    I don’t want to leave it and have problems later when not in guarantee, I have a client who has just bought the same cooker who doesn’t appear to have this problem.

    Also how can it be ‘A’ rated when it’s losing so much heat?

    It is very possible there is a fault on the appliance & the cooling fans are not coming on as they should do.
    O.K so you need to get them back out & tell them to modify the appliance so as when an oven (either oven) is switched on the cooling fans run continuously.
    I have come across a design problem on this model and brought it to their attention, which can cause the problems you describe, it can lead to the top induction modules getting too hot also & failing completely, which can be expensive for you if it happens outside warranty & also expensive for Stoves to put right within warranty if they don’t do the simple modification required.

    Hi Seamy,

    Thanks for the response. How would I know whether the cooling fans are coming on? Are you a engineer or consumer?

    I’ll give them a chase up via email I think as they keep sending the same engineers who won’t accept there is a problem but I think that the outer temperatures whether in line with regulation or not are excessive for a ‘A’ rated new appliance.

    Engineer, you would feel cool air coming out under induction hob top, under fascia panel, theres a grill just above both oven doors, cool air should be coming out. You say that outer temp’ is excessive for “A” rating?? The rating has got to do with how much energy it uses, the reason this appliance is A rated is most likely that it has induction hob which is more energy efficient.
    If a cabinet beside is getting too hot this could point to a fault with the cooling fans nt coming on, it has not much bearing on whether its A or Z rating.

    Wasn’t sure on the rating and how it was achieved, thanks for confirming that.

    I’ll give it a run tomorrow and see if it blows then, are those temperatures in your experience excessive?
