Bosch Exxcel 1200 blank display and pump running

I have worked on the Motor today of my Bosch Exxcel 1200, WFO2464GB. While the work on the motor appears to have been successful, the motor on this model is only accessible from the bottom of the machine, so I had to lay the machine on its side. I now have two new faults.

Firstly, when the machine starts the count down display illuminates very briefly and then goes dark – and stays dark. If the machine is left turned off for a while then the display will give another brief flicker when turned on again, but short “off” periods don’t do this.

The individual lights for “Wash”, “Rinse”, “Spin” and “Ready” appear to be working correctly.

The second problem is that the pump motor keeps running. I did a trial run on the spin setting to test the original fault and the spin cycle worked, but the pump just ran and ran at the end. If I turn the machine off and then set it to another programme then the pump will usually run again rather then the machine waiting to start the new programme. Sometimes, though, the pump will stop after the machine’s been off for a while, but will soon take over again.

Now I know that putting a machine on its side is asking for trouble, but there’s no option with this model. Has anyone got any suggestions as to where the fault might be? I’ve looked round for loose connections and nothing jumps out at me.
