Our built in oven (details below) was cooking a chicken the other day when it began to hum loudly, then gave a big flash and popped the trip switch on the fuseboard.

I’m confident that it’s of an obselete type, so I don’t know whether to…
    -(a) send for an electrician
    -(b) take it somewhere
-(c) push in the trip, and continue to use it until the next flash
-(d) consider it uneconomical to even diagnose
    -(e) give up chicken

would anyone care to give me a nudge in one of those directions?

    Thanks

Get someone in to take a look. Normally if a circuit breaker trips, this indicates a possible insulation failure.

Sometimes as result of the fault, the cooker control switch (on the wall) is also damaged.

    😉

Thanks Brains. I’ve got a domestic appliance engineer coming tomorrow. I described the events to him and he suspects the “element”, so he’s spirited up a new one.

    Regards
