ParticipantThis job had me stumped, the owner says the grill doesn’t glow red at number six but only on number 4. I thought it was the simmerstat so I replaced those and still glows red at 4 but not six.
I was left scratching my head as the only plausible solution is to replace the knob with correct numbers on it ie: 1-4 instead of 1-6. The owner says it was never repaired before.
So I’m kinda stumped here, either I bought the wrong simmerstat which is unlikely as it is the same as the original and wired up exactly as it should be. Unless number 4 is meant to glow red and number 6 is simmering? Any pointers?
I ruled out grill element as it is working very well. Gonna try out to convection to see if the base element works as it may be linked by the wiring…

Turned out that according to the instruction manual that the grill should have the setting of 1 – 4 not 1 – 6 which led me thinking that the knob may have been fitted in error by some dopey factory fitter.
I ordered a replacement grill knob with setting of 1-4. So much for wasting my time and confusing the old man who’s wife passed away recently. I had wondered how his wife managed it, anyway it turned out that they both hardly used it until recently when the old man wanted to grill his fish fingers.

Shirley though. if 6 is the max setting on the old knob must = 4 on the new knob position wise then doesn’t really explain having to turn it back to 4 to get full power.. If the knob was full on it doesn’t matter whether its marked 4 6 or 11, its still going to be at full power.

The current knob has the markings of 1 to 6 and the owner assumed that to get full power is to turn to six which it was not the case. He discovered that number 4 gives full power instead of 6.
For an elderly person using the appliance, he found it very confusing and asked for explanation. So I ordered a replacement knob with the markings of 1 to 4 to put an end to the confusion.
Most people would assume that 6 is full power but not on this particular cooker. Turn to 4 and it clicks into place for full power but number six does not click into place as it was balancing between 4 and off position thus giving low power.
I found it was confusing even though I understood what’s happening but the evidence in front of you contradicts it against the owners manual and mechanism of the cooker. It was the wrong knob fitted to the cooker at the factory started it all off!
