I have an Indesit R45S and the fridge is not getting cold enough. The freezer is as cold as usual.
I’ve defrosted it as there was a build up of ice in the freezer, and there was a lot of ice along the top part of the back of the fridge.
I’ve also gone round the back of the fridge and removed the bottom panel. There was a load of thick dust on the compressor (I think that’s what it was) and on the fan. The fan was turning fine after dusting but it seems to run while fridge is open ( don’t know if that’s normal.
I’ve read a lot of posts that claim that some coils may be iced up but I don’t know where this coil is as I couldn’t see it at the back of the fridge. Am I looking in the wrong place?

I took a couple of photos with the back panel off.
I assume the parts picture are the compressor and the coil? I assumed the coil would be larger.
Anyone know if this is correct?

The coils you see there are the condenser, they should be warm.
The coils that you mention are inside the freezer, if non-frost free then it will probably be the shelves, a sort of aluminium looking affair usually.
With one compressor though and the symptoms, my guess would be a weak compressor but, just as with the other post I just answered, almost impossible to be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure remotely. I’d be a good way to 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} though at a guess.

If it is that, is it normally repairable?
People talk elsewhere about ice frosting up the coils as a possible cause but if they’re at the back of the fridge I can’t see how to get at them.
Although the fridge is too warm now, it’s seems that it’s being cooled to a degree.

Almost anything is repairable, it’s whether you want to or, it is worth, spending the money to accomplish that.
A compressor replacement is a specialist repair, the machine would need to be regassed and that cannot be done on a DIY footing. So between the labour and parts it is usually £150-£200 or thereabouts depending on the compressor required etc.
If it isn’t an air driven frost free fridge then I don’t think there’s another plausible explanation for the symptoms but, like I said, I can’t be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain.

Thanks for your responses.
I’ve tried most other things (that don’t rely on specialist DIY knowledge) with no success. We’ve had it for well over six years and it is second hand anyway.
I guess it’s probably past it’s useful life and needs to go to the great white goods recycling centre in the sky 🙁
