My LG direct drive FW1403FD is 5 years old had for the past month is making a grinding rumbling noise when pumping/drum rotating during the wash cycle.

It’s nothing stuck in the filter or drum.

I think the culprit is the attached photo which is on the bottom right behind the filter.
Is it a pump does anyone know?

    Many thanks!

Looks like the pump motor, can you see the pump blades when you clean the filter? If not take the pipe off and look in the pump. But do spin the drum by hand and check for play in case it’s the drum bearings. All with it unplugged of course!

Just in case it helps future googlers!

It was the pump – this machine has 2 together both identical. One is for drainage one for re circulation.

The noise was coming from the second of these and you could see once it was out there was too much play in the motor fins (not sure they are called that but that’s what they visually look like!)

I replaced both as they were quite cheap and I figured if ine had gone wrong the other may follow, so rather than take the machine apart again…
