    Hi,
Our John Lewis Washer Dryer, after 5 1/2 years of not overly heavy use has started to sound noisy in the bearings. I had a nice local engineer come out to look at it and he said that the bearings can’t be replaced as it’s a sealed drum and there were no access to the bearings!
Is this correct? I assume it’s cheaper to manufacture something like this and appears everything is now throw away. What a shame.

    The model number is JLWD1609
    Product Number 914604321/00
    Type H1956334

If this is the case about the sealed drum, is there a machine we can buy that has replaceable bearings and other parts?

    Many thanks

    Richard

It is a repairable split drum fitted to your machine. The engineer needs to visit Specsavers. 🙁

    Hi Martin,
    Many thanks for your reply.
Please have a look at the photo I just took. I did this after I saw your reply.
There does appear to be a “welded” seam around the drum.
Obviously I’m not second guessing you, but thought you like to maybe see a photo.

    Many thanks again,

    Richard

Ooops yes that IS a sealed drum. Oh dear, very very costly replacement. Scrapper I would say. 🙁

    Re: John Lewis washer dryer

    Thanks Martin,
I will use the machine for a bit as the noisy has only just started, with no play in the bearing so far.
Can you recommend a new machine that has serviceable bearings.
I guess separate washing and drying machines are better?
Any recommendations will be much valued here, either washer dryers or separate machines. I’d rather spend a bit more on a serviceable machine if they exist nowadays?
I don’t really want to replace every 5 or 6 years.
The engineer said we’d been unlucky.

    Many thanks again,

    Richard.

Bosch mid to upper price bracket. Separate machines. Washer dryers are rubbish and costly to run. Only buy one if space is limited, not a Bosch though as they are made by Smeg. Another rubbish brand.
