    Hi all.

I’m looking for some quick insight really.
As post title suggests, I have a Hoover HNWL 7146 that appears to not be heating the water during the wash cycles and not heating up during drying cycles.
Getting an Engineer out is pretty much a certainty.
The machine is six years old now, so I’m really weighing up whether to bother with the Engineer or just replace it, and this is where I am looking for some advice.

Has anyone experienced this problem and able to offer a likely cost of repair?

    Thanks!

Are you sure it’s not heating during the wash

Pretty sure. I caught it earlier just after having finished a 30min quick cycle and the clothes were stone cold. Normally there is some residual heat left.
I suppose it’s possible that the cycle included a rinse, but unlikely given that it was the shortest cycle. I will double check.
Is whether the wash is not heating or not particularly significant?

It will feel cold after any wash due to rinsing in cold water. The heater for the wash side is a totally separate system to the dryer heater. Very unlikely that both would fail at the exact same time.

Put it on a hot wash and feel the door glass after 20 to 30 minutes to check the wash heater.

Chances are that it is just the dryer that is faulty, should be worth having it looked at. Could be toc, element, blocked condensor etc, none of them over expensive.

It is mid cycle now and the water is cold.

Is that on a hot 60° wash, is it still on a wash or is it now into the rinse cycles?

TBH most no heat faults are usually worth fixing unless the main pcb is faulty.

    40 degree, mid wash.

    IT IS COLD.

I appreciate the input, but I’m not trying to diagnose the problem.

Let’s just assume that it is neither heating the water nor heating up during drying. What is the likely fault? What is the likely cost? Is it worth repairing?

Re: Hoover HNWL7146 not heating during wash / drying cycles

The wash heater and dryer heater are not connected so there are multiple reasons why both may not be working. There is no fault that I am aware of that would stop the wash heater and dryer heater from working at the same time.

Impossible to give a specific answer to either.

The components and wiring will need a visual and electrical test to determine the cause.

As I have already intimated, apart from the control pcb most heater faults are not that expensive to repair.

    Okay.

Seems to me like a horrible coincidence, since you know of no fault that could cause the two to fail simultaneously.

Are there any definite indicators that it could be the PCB, such as programs refusing to run etc? The wash cycles I use all run fine.

    Thanks for your help!

With respect to you Daemore, if we cannot diagnose the problem we cannot answer your question on likely cost with any degree of accuracy.

Given the way you ignored the advise of one of this sites most experienced engineers but still question us, here is the best answer available to you on costs.

    Somewhere between £0.00 and £988.67

£0.00 because it could be a loose connection or broken wire and £988.67 the cost of an ISE10 to replace it.

    Hi Jackal.

I’m not sure that I’ve ignored any advice. I don’t intend to cause offence to anyone, merely seeking some experienced insight.

I do believe I have given information when asked and been as clear as my layman knowledge of such things allows.

Re: Hoover HNWL7146 not heating during wash / drying cycles

Daemore, I didn’t say you have caused any offence and my opinion is that you haven’t.

IADOM asked you to put it on a hot wash, which would be a 60 or 90 degree one because he was remotely trying to test something for you, to determine or narrow down the list of suspects in regards to the fault.

You ignored that and put it on a 40 degree wash which in terms of the test IADOM was trying to do was pretty much useless to us.

It is rare both faults occur at the exact same time, which could lead to conclusion the control board is faulty, however many other things could also be causing the problem.

So without someone now actually diagnosing the problem for you your not likely to get any further here.

If you want me to price a control module for you, so you can weigh up that option I will need the full serial code from the machine. it will be 16 digits long and begin with a 3

Ah, I see where you are coming from!

I didn’t ignore the advice, the machine was part way through a cycle when he requested I test it on a high temp cycle. It wasn’t an intentional snub!

I have booked an Engineer to visit next week. If it’s of any use to you chaps, I will return here once the problem has been properly looked at and let you know the outcome.

Thanks again to you both for your help.
