Our ( now getting on a bit) 555 has got a small leak.. in the drum.
it seeems to be right on the join next to one of the motor mount lugs .Nb .. this is the first time I’be been under the washer , everything else ( quite a few ) has been done under warranty . but now we are in
the wilderness 😆 ..I have noticed that right next to the leak there is a drum bolt missing..
Not having one of these “specials” its now got a 5mm nut & bolt in there. but not made a lot of difference..
So.. down to the questions .. being an Ex aircraft mech eng , got a bit of a clue 😉 ..
Is the drum just a face to face joint or is there any kind of seal/o ring ?.And what the best procedure for getting the whole unit out of the casing ?? .. while I still have the strenght and inclination :rolls: 😆 .

Has a neoprene rubber seal between the front and back tub halves. All comes out the front to access. Have fun! 😀

NB. There is no bolt missing, there is one hole for a bolt that is not actually used or needed on this machine.;)

It only seem to leak during certain cycles,
the ones when I’m not sitting watching .. :rolls:wondering whether its actually a Crack somewhere around the motor LUG that opens up when the motor is loaded..
getting stuck in today , as too busy yesterday .with school and MOT’s.

Silly question but worth asking before 😳 … is there a sequence of panel removal to get in ?.
Does the front panel just come off for access ?, will found out though when I get in there . our wash room is bit small so got limited access.. 🙁thanks

The drum seal Martin mentions is a well known cause of leaks after a few years, will be more likely to leak on hotter, longer washes.
Not an expensive part but a major strip down involved.

Is this seal even slightly visible for mthe outside. 😉
As just looking at ours, unless the seal is microns thick? 😆
I can’t see one there??Quite a bit of grey cruddy residue around the joint line in odd places
Cleaned up and can’t see any cracks visible.
already Sussed out how it comes apart. 😳
Anyone used addition/alternative methods of sealing ?
got rather a lot of stuff, from my years keeping a 36 yr old Fiat X1/9 alive and on the road 😆Chris

THIS is the part you need. Much better to change it rather than attempt to seal the drum with adhesives or sealants given the amount of work involved in getting at it. 😉

I have done that seal change quite a few times and do it without removing the whole drum from the machine.
Carefully lie it on its back and with the right tools it is possible to remove the drum front without taking the whole drum out. 😉

Spent more time cleaning out all the moulding recesses of goo/gunk/scale . 😆

Ahh.. another page … been looking at loads of other peeps ways of cleaning out gungy bits … and all the various concoctions to clean things out . 😉Some of ours needed a good poking to shift and left the other odd bits soaking while waitingfor the part to arrive. ..
