ParticipantHello,
I have a customer with one of these playing up. The light comes on when you open the door, but it is otherwise dead. I’m assuming it’s the module, but there’s no sign of damage on it.
As always any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Best to get the PNC number if it is the one I am thinking of it may be made by whirlpool.
If the display is in the middle at the front between the fridge and freezer then it is most likely the main module on the top of the fridge freezer.
The display module should be ok but will not display the temperatures.
When you replace the main module.
The display turns of when you close the doors this is normal.

Hello,
I’ve double checked, the model number is correct.
I think it is made by Whirlpool – there are whirlpool parts listed on Connect & Qualtex. It does have the display between the fridge and freezer, so it is probably the model you’re thinking of.
The module isn’t listed on Connect and is Special Order with Qualtex – I have a feeling she will buy a new one rather than wait.
Thanks for the help.

The last time I ordered one it was special order and takes about 14 days from Connect.
The PCB is not cheep but a lot cheaper than buying a new one.
I had to do a part number enquiry on connect as the only PCB listed was the display .

It is a Whirlpool produced unit.
Known common issues lie with the sensors, listed here, but quite how faults manifest due to that being iffy, I do not know. You can use the pukka part number to find it from your favourite supplier but AWS is the cheapest for the gen Smeg part.
The Smeg part number for the PCB is 811650944. That shows zero use pretty much and is not stocked anywhere so, not common at all.
I can’t relate that to a Whirlpool part number either.
Before you order the PCB though, is the compressor getting power or, is the board getting told by the sensor to switch it on?
It’s a hell of a gamble to order up a PCB if you don’t know, just saying.

Is the display at the centre of the fridge lighting up when you open the door or is it dead.
And does the light stay on even with the door closed.
The symptoms I have had are light stays on even with the door closed and display dead.
This is the symptoms I have had on this model when the main PCB has been faulty.Bob

She did say that the top shelf felt hot, so I’m assuming the light is staying on. The display is completely dead.
To be honest I didn’t pull it out to check the compressor. i was assuming some sort of module issue as there seemed to be power as the light was on.I doubt she will wait 14 days for a part anyway, so thanks very much for the help, if I see another one I will have a much better idea what’s wrong with it.

I have replaced the modules on three of this model now and the symptoms you describe have been the same light stays on even with door closed and centre display dead.
The main module is on the top of the appliance.
2 of the customers I have been to bought a cheap fridge as a back up just to keep milk etc in and had the built in repaired.
