ParticipantHi all, I have read the buying guide and have done a bit of research but I’m still not sure which would be the best option. I want to replace my aging Bosch dryer and was going to buy a Meile to math my washing machine but Meile dryers seem very expensive for what is a pretty simple appliance. So I started looking into other brands. I was about to order this dryer http://www.johnlewis.com/aeg-t65170av-v … =231391805 as it has really good reviews but I then looked at this efficiency guide http://www.sust-it.net/energy-saving.php?id=41 and it seems that the most efficient machines are condenser models. I can have a vented dryer but I’m now wondering if condenser is the way to go? But I’m worried about reliability? I’m really confused now!!! Any advice would be appreciated.

Condenser dryers are high maintenance low reliability. Heat pump dryers over engineered and mega unreliable. Bosch vented are OK for the most part but Miele is THE way to go by far, if you can afford it. Well worth the investment for the long term.

Thanks for that, it just seems odd that you can buy a meile washing machine for under £600 and a dishwasher for just over £400 but their dryers start from about £750!
So vented is the way to go?
Is the AEG model in my last post any good? or is it too new to tell?
If I can find a s/h Meile dryer, which model/range were particularly good?

Without question if you can accommodate.

They are pretty good machines.

Good luck with that one but I would be suspicious of any Miele dryer getting on the S/H market…..avoid that option.

Thanks Martin, the AEG machine is a sensor dry model so I guess that should stop us over drying. Our current Bosch dryer (about 12 years old) is very noisy and I have replaced the capacitor and repaired the door (broken off by my 2 year old!). It was only a basic model and when cross referring for parts I discovered that it was basically a White Knight dryer re badged! The Mrs recons that it takes ages to dry and we tend to over dry things by sticking it on too long after the first run.
Are these sensor dry machines any good? Do they work? or am I making a mistake buying a cheaper machine? Although its an AEG its only £270.

Sensor dryers have been around for years. A well establish and reliable function overall.
That old White Knight Bosch is a great workhorse. Probably just needs a new circular element. Cheap to fix too! 😉

I just wanted a shiny new machine to go in my new utility room! Maybe I should keep the Bosch until it conks completely. But seriously, a new machine should be more efficient I guess?
I have load tested the Bosch and it draws more current on the high heat setting so the element must be working on both settings. Is there anything else that could make it take longer to dry? it takes about 1.5 hours for a full mixed load. Maybe that is normal?

Thats ‘normal’ for a White Knight, the new AEG far quicker and hence more efficient. (About 65 – 70 mins for a full load)
