ParticipantI was looking for a switch bank for an APP2500 cooker hood Connect quoted £31.80 plus vat, Qualtex offered me it at just over £17, they also offered me alternatives one was an Electrolux part which i checked on Connect price over £70 plus vat.
They are always asking for examples of this so i sent an email for an explanation, this is the reply.Hello
Looks like we are going by the more up to date price. Although we last had 1 in
January. You see the price checks out correct and a lot more than £17 to us.
Qualtex must be using an old price.
I hope this sheds some light on it.
This is my reply
Thats a strange reply as i was looking for this part 0000051 for an app2500 which Qualtex also offer for £17 which you quote at £31.80 it was only when Qualtex was offering me alternatives i decided to check the prices of the alternatives on your site i take it that must be an old price as well, i have also checked masterpart and they quote the part at £17 or £14.99 if i bought 2, surely 2 companys cannot have there pricing structures totally wrong??September 22, 2014 at 6:12 pm #419499Martin

Always beware of prices, (especially CDSL THE trade rip-off merchants). But the problem is that many, including Qualtex, will show lower prices but don’t have stock. So you’re stuffed all ways…….

You hope? Masterpart are another caution. You don’t (can’t) be sure until you order. 😉

Parts prices for distributor branded appliances usually vary wildly, hence the need to shop around. I wouldn’t be surprised if Connect aims for over 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} markup on their buying price for spares, which might help to explain why they tend to be un-competitive on minor brands.
I recall being quoted around £180 for a power module for a HDA washer dryer by Glen Dimplex (official parts distributors for HDA), whereas the OEM, Hoover, quoted around £60 for the same thing.

Some points to be made and, I’d ask you think about it.
If you search under different manufacturer OPNs you’ll get different prices from most distributors. More where they are not cross-referenced.
Perhaps the inflated prices on some serve you well as it makes the perceived retail pricing higher from that particular brand.
Just maybe the prices are uploaded from whatever and marked up giving you mad prices on occasion and, that may well be based on an iffy price from the OEM originally.
There are tens of thousands of part so, plenty of scope for errors to creep in.
I’m not for a minute saying that it’s all completely innocent and was some sort of conspiracy but, I’d suspect many things before that as a go-to conclusion.

Hi..
There’s a simple solution here..YOU DONT HAVE TO BUY FROM CONNECT !!!
You all moan about the prices and say master part or Qualtex is cheaper..then use them !!
do you use Tesco’s or Sainsbury’s or BP or Esso.. if they are more expensive ..no you go shopping elsewhere.. What’s the difference.I can’t see BP or Esso or Tesco’s mentioned and fuel is a massive untold cost to the business’s.
Your customers do the same.. I want free call out/estimates..you don’t do them..they go elsewhere simples..
Like the rest of us..they and the rest will soon learn that the parts can be purchased elsewhere.

Bryan do have a point but at the end of the day do I want the hassle to spend ages looking for cheaper parts and try sell to the customer a discounted parts when they don’t have the luxury to obtain cheaper parts themselves.
I simply took the view that I’m employed by the customer and they will pay whatever I charge them for and to quibble for £15 difference is not worth the trouble. Sometimes but very rarely I sell parts at cost price to make it affordable in order to secure repeat custom. I agree some parts can be excessive.
I recently fitted replacement carbon filters for cooker hood at the cost of £50 a pair, the guidelines says replace it every six months. Well I’ll be blowed!
