Got a problem with this; the freezer side is cycling from -21 to +1 several times a day.

A bit of history. Appliance is 6 years old, been problem free until about six months or so ago when the RCD on the kitchen circuit started tripping. Would do this any time of day, often middle of the night when nothing else was on. Problem got more frequent recently, sometimes tripping twice a day.

Had an Amana a while back that did this and got an engineer out then who replaced the defrost heater. Problem solved.

So, went onto the Maytag spares website, bought the correct replacement heater and fitted it last week. Good news is that the RCD hasn’t tripped since, bad news is the temperature thing mentioned above.

Pulled the unit out this morning to check the rear fan etc. Wasn’t moving but compressor warm and freezer v slowly reducing the temperature. Cleaned out all the dust after powering off. Plugged back in and fan started immediately. Dropped to -17 and now the fan / compressor gone off again.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

Looking at schematics and the circuit design, I guess my defrost thermostat might be stuck in the closed position so the defrost heater continues to run for the entire time as governed by the defrost timer.

I guess I need to pull it, stick in in my chest freezer for a while and then test.

The stat should only be either off or on and, if faulty then whatever state it is in shouldn’t alter or, you wouldn’t expect it to ordinarily.

    Defrost timers, they can stick.

    K.
