I have had this washing machine for at least two years, so I’m pretty sure it is outside its warranty.

Sometimes when I do my washing there is a smell of burning plastic in the room, and being in their can leave you lightheaded.

Anecdotally I think the smell is more likely to occur when I do a big wash i.e. towels etc, but it sometimes occurs with smaller loads.

Any help would be much appreciated, regards

Have you checked the mains socket / plug for signs of overheating?
