ParticipantHello,
I have a Neff oven (U1461N2GB/01) which has until recently worked well. I had a mishap recently whilst replacing the main oven bulb which necessitated the replacement of the lamp holder. Whilst doing this I managed to short everything out and blew the house fuse as a result. I corrected that issue but am now left with a new issue. Now the timer is not functioning as it was before the incident. to try to explain the problem I’ll first describe how I used to set the timer:-- 1) Press the clock selection button to get to the timer length option.
2) Turn the time increment knob to set the length of cooking time.
3) Press the clock selection button to get to the timer finish option.
4) Turn the time increment knob to set the finish time.
5) Set the oven temperature.
6) Set the oven mode.
7) The oven turns itself on and then immediately off again.
8) At the predetermined time the oven turns on and heats to the preset temperature using the preset oven mode.
9) At the finish time the oven turns off and the beeper sigals the end of the process. What happens now is the same up to 7) and then the fault is noted as the oven does not immediately turn itself off to wait until the start time. To be honest it doesn’t turn itself at all and simply starts heating. I’ve checked the obvious e.g. is my cooking time subtracted from the finish time greater than the current time, and can confidently say that this is not the problem.
Does anyone have experience of this type of fault or are willing to offer an opinion?
Thanks,
Mike

I assume that you cannot get the oven to switch off at all with the clock
From what i can see you have fixed the light and turned on and blown the fuse. This has probably welded the relay contacts in the timer. To fix it you either need to find a replacement relay and solder it in or replace the timer

Dave,
Thanks for the reply.
If I’m not using the timer then the oven works as well as it ever did. It seems that only the timers control over the oven is no longer working. Could this be a symptom of a fused relay as you suggest or would that stop the oven from working in other ways?

normally if you turn the cooker off at the mains and then turn back on 5 minutes later the oven will not work until you set the clock. if when you turn on it works without doing anything to the clock then yes you have a fused relay

Dave,
I can confirm that turning the oven off for 5 minutes (well 25 actually) and then testing the timer when it’s turned back on again shows the same symptoms. The clock needs setting but then the oven works fine in manual mode, but not on timer mode.
Presumably I turn off the power, pull the oven out of the unit, open the top in order to get to the relay. I also presume that the relay is in the timer control box behind the buttons, but where should I be looking? Does anyone have a photo indicating the position of the relay, or will it be obvious once the lids off? Is there a test (I have a multi-meter) I can perform to confirm the diagnosis?
Thanks,
Mike

The “relay” a surface component of the timer/clock unit. Good luck with that.

I’m sensing that this isn’t going to be a simple task then?

The relay is attached to the back of the timer, sometimes there are two but usually just the one.
Is it an easy job? depends on your skill with a soldering iron, if experienced a relatively simple job if not like everything else for the first time can be awkward.
If I was you I would be taking photos along the way so you remember how it all goes back together, especially the wiring on the timer.

Ok,
Now that the Christmas holiday season is over and the pressure is not as great on the oven I have found some time to take the oven out, lift the lid and peek inside. I can see the timer unit with a model number of 13805-006 B. This is a black plastic box with a PCB clipped on the back, which when removed exposes a smaller PCB inside the box. The larger external PCB has what looks like two white rectangular relays on it on one side and a transformer on the other. There are also six spade connectors across the top, a ribbon connector to one side, a capacitor and a black rectangular box under the white relays.
Some questions:-
* Are all these components together considered as the ‘timer’ or are only some of them the ‘timer’?
* Assuming the entire lot is referred to as the ‘timer’ then are the white rectangular components relays, or is it the black one?
* If these are not the relays I should be looking for then where are they?
* No burning or other damage is visible on either side of the larger external PCB or to any component on it following a brief visual examination. Should I be able to see any damage if the relay has gone?
* Is it possible to buy these components as spares, if so then any idea from where as a general internet search doesn’t throw up many (English) results? Thanks,
Mike

Neff-Cooker-Oven- U/B1322n1gb-01-B1322-Fd3605-Display-timer-clock-unit. This is the 2 button unit, which has two white relays. These are schrack 0410 63 054 002 which seem to be out of date – replacement parts are RFH54006WG RF900016WG tyco Power Relay available on, for example, Ebay £12 for two.
Symptom: the delay start function on the timer isn’t working – you set it, but the cooker doesn’t stay off to the allotted start time
Cause: Main element blows causing overcurrent, welding the contacts together in the relays, so it always stays onTo replace them, by yourself a soldering iron and simple desoldering pump (to suck the old solder off).
1. Isolate the cooker, remove the top tin cover (about 4 screws)
2. Remove the power clip (white connector) and 4 cables with spades attached to the 2 relays (keep a note/picture of which goes where)
3. Remove the clock (2 press tabs on the underside) and remove the circuit board (some clips around the edges – 4 thin, 2 wide)
4. Remove the solder from the relay coil pins (2 per relay) and from the underside of the blades (2pinsx2) by heating the solder and using the desoldering pump.
5. Lever off the old relays (you may wish to snip the pins to make it easier) and throw away.
6. Put in the new relays, bend the pins as to hold the relays in (as per the old relay), and apply solder
7. Refit (steps 1-3, in reverse) and all is good, saving £100+February 10, 2018 at 7:02 pm #419927electrofix

To the ADMIN response.
Can I just say that the date of the first postings etc has nothing to do with being able to respond to the fault and issue in question. I have just had this very same issue and came across this reply, its fantastic, thanks very very much. it has help me diagnose the fault and repair it, brilliant.Again thanks very much every the tip about eBay, got the parts for £5.20 with free postage
Cheers.February 23, 2018 at 6:53 pm #419929electrofix
