ParticipantThis fridge is approximately 5 years old. It was working OK up to about 2 months ago. It started getting too cold and even set at 1 on the controller, the temperature can go down to close to freezing. The compressor is permanently on 🙁
I was pressurised into replacing the thermostat. This was done yesterday and has made no difference. Any help would be appreciated.
I have been involved for more than 50 years in Electronics.

It’s probably the Fridge evaporator sensor gone out of range or faulty.

How can I identify the evaporator sensor ❓ I assume that it is a thermistor. Once identified, is there a simple test with a multimeter that can be carried out to determine whether it is faulty ❓

Your model has a standard thermostat and does not have a sensor.
The sensors are only fitted to the electronic controlled fridges.
It will be low on refrigerant or the compressor is faulty. ( Not pumping as it should )
The reason it would have been freezing is it would not turn the thermostat off as the rear panel in the fridge would only get cold at the top and not get cold low enough to turn off the thermostat.
It will need an engineer to check as it is not a DIY repair.
If it is low on refrigerant it will mean it has a leak and the leak will have to be found or it will slowly leak the gas and you will have the same fault again.

SAMURI, Thank you for your advice.
Methinks a new fridge is the order of the day. The problem with that is that the fridge is under a work surface and is boxed in. Note that there is an air gap around all outer surfaces. The fridges that I have looked at are either too high or too wide to fit 🙁

if you replaced it with the correct thermostat this is what turns the compressor off, You have freezing so gas is OK and motor OK, its just control issue. The universal type stat are a pain to set correctly.

If the appliance is low on gas and it does not freeze to the bottom of the wet wall evaporator then it will not turn off the thermostat and this will result in the inside of the fridge freezing.
It gives the same effect as a faulty thermostat but in most cases if a stat fails it will not work.
It is rare for a standard friidge stat to fail so it freezes everything, And as it was freezing before the stat was changed it is 99.9{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} a refrigerant fault.
