    Hi all,

I recently got a new Bosch Maxx8 WTB86300GB condenser tumble dryer and while it works fine the sides get really quite hot when it’s drying. As an estimate maybe 80°C (it’s hot enough that I can hold my hands on it for about 5 seconds but it really gets really uncomfortable after that). Is that normal? Our last one got no where near that hot so I’m a bit worried that there is something else going on here.

Dryers have fail safe devices to prevent anything harmful. The worst usually happens by misuse, poor maintenance etc. The dryer works hotter than 80 degrees, so heat just transfers through the body. I wouldn’t worry until you see flames.

Lol mate, it’d be too late by then but thanks. It’s brand new so misuse and poor maintenance is not an issue. I think it may be just heat transfer I wasn’t expecting, it may well just generate a lot more heat than our previous one and with no heat protection on the inside the sides get hot (the way we have our kitchen the sides are exposed so it’s not tucked away like in other places). Saying that it may be worth noting that it gets so hot I would not recommend this model for a house with small kids. It may we well be hot enough to cause small kids an injury similar to a scald. Luckily mines now older (teenager) though she did brush up against it today and thought she got burned though no visible injury, redness or swelling occurred but that may be different with a younger child.

Thanks mate, I’ll give them a bell to check and raise the issue of the heat with them. I’ll keep you all posted on what happens.
