White goods call out are becoming quite a bit more frequent although my main business is electrical contracting & commercial catering & refrigeration,so I need to be a bit more informed, the biggest issue I seem to be having is PCB programming and I admit I know little of this, so to that end when a board is purchased a smart card and reader is required as I understand it the card is a one shot deal but can the reader be used again and if so would a collection of these be required for each manufacturer, and as most manufacturers have numerous brands across the range is the reader configured similarly,I understand also the a board can become damaged by a fault elsewhere and this needs to be addressed first but my main question is about the event where a board has failed
    Thanks in advance

    Re: PCB,s

If only it was that simple. The smart card and card reader you refer to are only used on Indesit group products. Every other manufacturer has a different system. Some boards can be ordered pre programmed, some can be programmed by installing the pcb and then using a programming routine with the buttons or controls of the appliance. There is no uniform, across the board system.

Unless you intend to do a lot of the Indesit Companies appliances then at over £100 it is difficult to justify the expense, given that you can get a lot of the common boards repaired and returned with a better warranty than you would get on a brand new board in a lot of cases.

The Indesit card reader can be used again and again.

EMW get slightly better ratings from the members here in general. 😉

Their test and return if NFF is useful.

There is a guy locally who collects old WG,s and breaks them for scrap I think I will do a deal on the boards, U/S or not might be an investment
