Participanthello…i have a strange problem…..the dryer on my machine works fine but the washing machine does not…when i start the washing machine the door locks , it pumps out water for a few seconds then the door unlocks….the diagnostics error code is ed4….if i disconnect the dryer heater element the washing machine works fine….the resistance on both halves of the dryer element is about 80 ohms…i hope someone can point me in the right direction…i’m thinking maybe one of the sensors on the dryer housing is defective!…thanks for helping….john

hi Martin….thanks…..i have noticed a couple of other things that aren’t right…..if i set the dryer setting the time goes to 12 mins automatically!…..if i disconnect the dryer element and run it through a wash cycle , at the end of the cycle the dryer starts up and there is still water left in the drum…are these things also connected with the dryer element?,,.thank you…john

Very likely, yes. The dryer element will have a leak to earth ( not detectable using a multimeter) the use of an Insulation Tester (aka Megger) is required and a leak in excess 40 megohms would be sufficient to cause problems such as you describe.

hi martin…i’ve replaced the dryer element and it is behaving the same way….i’m now thinking i should totally disconnect the dryer side and use it as a washing machine only…at the moment , if i disconnect the dryer element the washing machine works fine up until the last 15 minutes when the dryer kicks in ( it shouldn’t…not set to dry after wash), even though there’s still water in the drum….any ideas….thanks…john

Ed4 fault code refers to :- Relay which commutates power between washing heating element and drying (in the Washer Dryer board) is faulty. Wiring faulty, Washer Dryer board faulty, PCB faulty.
Most times as stated by Martin this down to an earth fault somewhere on the applaince, most often the dryer heater, needs to have components meggered to find problem.
