Hope someone might have an idea about my freezer. At the bottom ice seems to build up at the bottom, it would seem to be water freezing as opposed to a build up of frost. This slowly makes its way to the door before it melts and leaks.

The manual says water can be present at the bottom and at first i thought the fridge was not properly level but it is in fact slightly (and I mean very slightly) leaning back not forward.

Hoping there is something I can do to easily fix as it has just run out of warranty?

    Any ideas?

Water in the bottom is unusual…..are there any signs of water leaking/over flowing from the ice maker. These drips usually freeze and leave a trail behind them.

Another explanation is the runaway channel is blocked and the water you see comes from the defrost cycle, this would normally be collected on the base of the fridge.

In either case I think its engineer time for you, not a DIY this. You could always phone 0870 600 8989 and see if whirlpool will conceed a concessionary visit to you if as you say, your only just out of guarantee.

I subcontract for whirlpool and if your over the year you don’t have much chance. expert appliance care are good with american style and are auth. repare company. whirlpool engineers don’t know much about refrigeration and aways pass work on to expert who do.

Don’t listen to the last post……

As an X whirlpool Service partner I can say that we knew all about american whirlpool fridge freezers and were trained by whirlpool too.

A little knowledge is not always the answer.

Try asking Whirlpool, they can only say NO, but what good does that do them if as you advise you are only just out of warrenty.

    As for Expert Appliances………pass!

As an engineer who used to work for a Whirpool service partner I can confirm what kheath posted. Yes, the service partner I worked for had to pass some work to expert when the refrigeration engineer left, but these were only jobs which involved the gas system.
The problem in your freezer is most certainly to do with the defrost system in the freezer section. For whatever reason the drain has become blocked and during the defrost cycle the water cannot now drain into the tray underneath and is leaking out into the freezer cavity. You really need an engineer to check it all out and to clear the blockage. It may well be you have a problem with the defrost heater which has caused the blockage.
My advice is to “play safe”, you have a very expensive machine and if Whirlpool won’t give you a courtesy call, it’s well worth paying the engineers fee to cure the problem.

when I said whirlpool engineers don’t know much about refrigeration I did not mean it as insult. whirlpool service are not interested in training you for the job. and I often turn up for a regas to find it is the stat. unfortunaly the whirlpool engineer in my area only takes 2 minutes to diagnose fault. but most are good.
