ParticipantHi
My single fan assisted oven stopped working the other day, the fan spins but no heat, ordered a new element because that was what the problem was when it stopped working about a year ago.
Anyway popped in the new element and the oven element does not get warm.
The grill works and so does the bottom heater bit in the oven, just not the round element surrounding the fan.
What else could be the problem, Have not pulled The cooker out and taken off the back yet.
Could I swap the wiring from the grill element to the fan element to check wiring??
What could be the problem and is it easy to fix?

Is the element getting a feed?
It could be the selector switch causing the problem but, I am guessing.

Now know that the wires to the fan element are live.

Have taken off the element and checked ok for continuity, voltage from the wires to the element is about 12 volts.
Does this help in a diagnosis?October 27, 2014 at 7:49 pm #420815kwatt

You need to check the switch is actually making on the contact for the element and, in the way of that will no doubt be the safety stat.

To be honest, not really.
You need to check that the switch contacts are actually operating and that the safety stat isn’t open circuit.

How do you know the wires are live?
How did you test them? What voltage did you have? Are you sure you have got the neutral supply? As ken says sounds like a safety stat to me aswell, which cuts the neutral supply when it overheats. You can easily test these doing a continuity test and not working live.
To be perfectly honest though if your not understanding kens post about are the switch contacts making then I’m starting to doubt your ability with a meter and strongly recommend you do not work live to find this fault, you should be able to find this fault without the need to work live.Phil.

Since you got 12 volts you obviously have a device to measure voltage. Visual look at the selector switch, the often melt, show signs of burning. The connections will have changed colour, the contact arms also. If not follow wires from the fan element, neutral will join grill element or fan motor, live will go to a safety stat, sometimes the neutral will as well. Easy way to tell if stat is rodgered, simply remove wires and join together, if heats you need to replace. If not follow wire back further, chances are it’ll terminate in the switch, a good torch will show you the way.

Update. It was the selector. Burnt out some contacts. Got new one from Partmaster for £50 and swapped over in 15 minutes. Thank you for your helpDecember 11, 2014 at 8:50 pm #420822kwatt
