I replaced the belt on my bissell floors and more 5283e upright.

I followed the manual and the brushes are rolling again, only I can’t disengage them now. Regardless of them being on or off, they’re always on. And it smells like the belt is burning too. I can literally smell burning rubber.

I don’t quite understand how the on off button works for the brushes.

I’ll add that I got the belt off eBay.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi

It sounds like you have a belt which is to short hence the smell of burning rubber.

The correct belt is part number 1603225 it’s a genuine belt only.

Can you post up the Ebay link for the belt you purchased.

    Hi Don

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331058720326

That’s what I got. I went for that because when I looked at the genuine ones they were a tenner plus £6 postage.

Is upright bissell any good? I usually look for the best vacuum under 100 and bissell is like always best seller. Its a cheap 50$ vac but works great and does the job.
Well I’ve noticed my carpets going dirty pretty fast and I need more powerful machine so I don’t have to wash them 3 times year.

This is a UK based website. We don’t give good exchange rates on US dollars so 100 dollars this side of the pond won’t buy you much. A dustpan and broom maybe. 😉

The floors and more models suffered with motor problems, i had 2 of them left over from shop stock and sold one to a friend, while i kept the other one myself…
Both had motor problems within months, as it was under guarantee Bissel arranged for both to be collected and replaced with new machines…so far they have been fine…but to give you an idea of the quality of the original motors they were fitted with..they were less than £5 inc VAT.
