ParticipantHi – another ‘what brand should I buy’ type query…..
I’m in the process of renovating a cottage and I am about to start on the kitchen. This is my first home, so first kitchen and I don’t have any appliances to go in it yet.
Having kept an eye on the forums for a while I’ve allowed space for a free standing washing machine and, budget allowing, will be getting a Miele.
It’s a 200yr old cottage and I’d like a range cooker. I like the style of the Britannia ranges I’ve seen, and playing with the doors and knobs they seem quite solid – any comments?
The other appliances I need some guidance/comments on best manufacturer(s) to look at…..
Diswasher – slimline, integrated
Fridge – integrated, tall, larder (sadly haven’t got room for an American style)
Freezer – integrated, under counterThanks for your help,

Hi Senga
Firstly for the range cooker I personally would choose a Mercury range cooker, they are hand built in the UK,slightly more expensive but well worth it and also available in different colours.http://www.mercury-appliances.co.uk/quality.asp
as for the built in range of refrigeration,I would get an appliance that had the lease amount of electronics on it preferably standard if possible as the electronics may be reliable but when they do go wrong then the pcb’s are normally expensive.
As for the dishwasher there wont really be much to choose from as most of the slimlines are made by a few manufacturers badged into different names.
hope this helps

Thanks for the response.
The Mercury looks very nice – not sure how I missed that in my lookings. If I had another 200mm to play with I would definitely consider it. Unfortunately space is at a premium and I’m having to compromise with a range that will fit a 900mm space – reduces the options a little.
Is there any significant difference between refrigeration manufacturers?
I noticed that there weren’t many slimline dishwashers in the brochures – another primarily space enforced choice. Wondered if Miele washed dishes as well as they wash clothes, or if someone else makes their dishwashers?

KeymasterMiele (to my knowledge) only sell what they make, they do not buy in other manufacturers products and rebadge them. Nor do they sell their appliances to anyone else, again as far as I know.
