Sorry But From My Experience That Is Going To Either Be A Broken Interlock Or A Mishpaen Door Catch Which If Door Or Interlock You Are Going To Need A Service Engineer To Call

Laura,
If you have waited the two minutes at the end, the doorlock should have released. If you can feel resistance on the handle, the lock is holding in the locked position. A sharp tap on the casing adjacent to the door handle will sometimes shock it free. If there is no resistance on the handlle and it moves full distance, the handle will be broken.Either way you will need to replace one of these components, so check in repairs@ukwhitegoods.com or the Directories for a UKW repairer in your area.

It seems a little harsh to say the machine has only lasted 2 years when the fault is relatively simple and cheap to rectify. Would you take a 2 year old car to the crusher if the central locking went wrong?

Don’t forget Phidom, we are talking ‘Ariston’ here :lesson:
A basic, cheap and cheerful piece of tin and plastic designed to last just to the end of the UK statutory warranty period, beyond that you on a ‘bonus wash’ every time 😆 Unlike your 2 year old car that was designed and built within very strict European legislation, strict safety requirements installed to ensure passenger safety, etc etc 8) …One cannot draw a parallel there unfortunately…………. 🙁
……… However, maybe it compares nicely to a 2 year old video recorder that chews tapes and a B & Q Portable Gas Barbeque that rusts through, in that very same time period :rotfl:

I can’t say that this corresponds with my experience of Merloni machines although I have not had that much to do with the computerised models. A friend has a 15 year old Ariston which is still going strong and I have sold several recon. Indesits which have also lasted well.

KeymasterThe later models are grim Phil, the parts prices grimmer still I’m afraid.
I was doing a favour for someone on the site and it transpires that the spares, a whole condensor chamber, seal and fan motor were WAY over £100 for the parts alone. Two year old machine as well and touch and go as to whether it’s economically viable to repair it. 😕
