ParticipantHello first post ,I have just had a wm 64 in of unknown past .I have replaced spider bearings and heater when tested worked fantastic through all programs ,store outside in large polythene bag for three weeks .Sold it to a customer once installed turned it on and it went into flat out spin big flash from the motor still spinning then another big flash from the motor then it took out the plug fuse ,i stripped the programming board out found it was damp so dried it and re-installed it took out motor which was also damp dried it by puting it into a fan oven checked brushes which had plenty of meat left on them the re – installed the motor tried again same thing happened motor went in to over drive immediately flashed carried on flashed again took out fuse .would this be the program timer board at fault (something failed whilst damp or wet) ? help. 😕
would like to finish this machine as it has cost me a few bob now and need to recoup investment .

Even if the tacho control system was faulty it should not have flashed from the motor. It sounds like a new motor and possibly a control unit are now needed.
If you are a genuine white goods trades person then please apply for trade membership ASAP. The link is on the home page. 😉
PS. You don’t mention doing any sort of insulation tests on the components, something that should be second nature to any whitegoods engineer. ❓

Whitegoods trade? Isn’t Percy Thrower a gardener? Must be if he stored a washing machine in a polythene bag outside, old propagation habits never die eh Percy?
But seriously, quit on this one matey, your efforts have been dangerously ineffective and costly to boot!
Bin it, stick to growing flowers and veg. 😉

Thank you for your reply Iadom No i am not in the trade as a pro but i have been repairing my and other kit for over thirty years ,with respect to insulation test yes was pat tested before it went to storage .Thanks again iadom.
The other two ,well sarcasm is never helpful ,thought i would of been treated a little better on here as a newbie on the forum ,disgraceful !.

I meant insulation tested after it failed and was damp, especially the motor after it came out of the oven. :eeek:
A hand held hairdryer is a much better option . 😉
The bottom line is that it still sounds terminal or as we say in the trade, BER. 🙁

Shawn
I am confused.
Your not trade, yet have a PAT tester and seemed, if I take your post correctly, to have the common sense to have PAT tested the unit after the repair.
Yet then you do something totally ridiculous a store the damned thing outside in the damp with a bit of plastic as its only protection.
Then you sell it sometime later without having the forethought to retest it for safety sake knowing it was stored in damp conditions.
I gotta agree with IADOM that it sounds like BOTH the motor and PCB are now goosed.
I would say finally, that if you aren’t sensible enough to ensure the safety of products you sell to customers, then for your customers sake, this isn’t the industry you should be dabbling with.

Have to agree with jackal. It is a must to have been insulation tested before it went out. As for the fault itself it does sound pretty terminal

I also wonder if you are not in the white goods trade then how can you have ‘customers’? If you are selling reconditioned appliances to the public, have you got proper public liability insurance?

Ahh yes i didn’t articulate the storage procedure here did i ? the equipment goes into a large shipping container(outside) with machine covered in thick plastic bag (similar material to dpc membrane) to keep it clean from dust and debris,Jackal i have a pat tester because i am a qualified 17 edition sparks by trade .I have never had reason to doubt the storage dryness before as it is normally drier than most zone one situations in the container hence the not giving it another pat before transporting it, this latest issue will render the practice an absolute necessity now before transporting stuff to its new homes lesson learnt and de-humidifier purchased !. machine will be stripped for spares now .yes iadum i do thank you for asking 😉
