    American Style Fridge freezer

    Brand:

    Beko
    Model: AB910s
Fault: Displaying [!] on console, not maintaining freezing temp.
Troubleshooting: Defrosted unit for 24 hours, checked board controller for burn marks, cleaned dust/gunk off fan at bottom of unit.

    Hello,

I am having a problem with my Beko AB910s American style Fridge Freezer which is displaying the exclamation mark [!] on the display console. The freezer part of the unit is also not staying cold however the display unit does not display any error codes apart from the [!]

The exclamation mark disappears when the fridge freezer is reset (unplugged and plugged back in) however seemed to reappear after the door was opened and closed throughout the day.

After doing some searching on Google I have found several possible reasons and solutions to fixing this however I would like some further troubleshooting before purchasing parts I may not need.

What I have done so far:

ONE) One of the suggested reasons for the exclamation mark was that ice was blocking the vent, so we removed all the frozen food and left the unit unplugged to thaw out for 24 hours. During this time I also took the time to remove all screws/coverings and take photographs of the inside. I have added an album with these to the bottom of this post.

After thawing the unit out for 24 hours, we plugged it back in and left it for 6 hours to check if it was working. However, it now appears that the freezer is not working at all now, whereas before it was keeping it at a cold temperature.

TWO) Another possible reason was that the fan was not working, so I cleaned the gunk/dust off the fan at the bottom of the refrigerator as well as trying to remove the dust from what I looked like a PC’s heatsink radiator (what the fan was blowing into) however this was very awkward to reach and hard to clean. I also removed the plating from inside the fridge freezer and visually inspected the fan located at the top, which seemed to look fine but I am in no way a professional.

I also found an answer at Justanswer.com (http://www.justanswer.com/uk-appliance/ … as920.html) which suggested the following:-

    1) Unplug the appliance and leave for 30 seconds.
    2) Then plug the washer back in.
    3) Then as soon as you plug it in press and hold the fast freeze button and the quick cool button and keep hold for about 3 seconds then let go.
    4) Then press any of the buttons twice.
    5) Then press the quick cool button and it should display FA
    6) If it does then open the freezer door and see if you can hear the fan running

I followed all of these instructions, and the fan did start and the freezer seemed to be blowing cold air into the unit. However, after resetting the fridge freezer the fan is no longer running and no cold air is coming through.

THREE) The third possible fault I found was that the temperature sensor was not working, however whilst I did see this when I opened the unit I don’t know how I could check if it was working or not.

FOUR) Another possible solution was to replace the board controller on top of the fridge freezer, however as this is the most expensive part to replace I have not fully explored this possibility. You can see the photos I linked, and to me it does not look like the board is burnt and the capacitors all seem to be intact.

If anyone can help further, I will be extremely appreciative. Here is the link to the photo album, shared on Dropbox: https://t.co/xfX34qgagq or if that doesnt work for you, here: http://postimg.org/gallery/z5lcyiac/51d84bce/

Is this the temperature sensor? I wasn’t sure when I opened up the back panel.

Re: Beko AB910S American style Fridge Freezer problem

The 2 most common faults with this model is the freezer fan motor at the top behind the top cover in the freezer compartment.

    Or the main PCB.

If the appliance does not run or make a noise it is normaly the PCB.

Is it starts up check the fan is running inside the freezer by pressing in the door switch in the freezer compartment. Make sure the door is closed on the fridge when you do this.

I have only found one with the fan motor and PCB Faulty.

Most are fan or main PCB faulty.

    Hi bob,

The machine starts up and makes noises, however there is no freezing and minimal cooling in the unit. The fan doesn’t start unless I do the following:

    1) Unplug the appliance and leave for 30 seconds.
    2) Then plug back in.

This makes the fan run in the freezer, however once reset and powered back on the fan does not start to run at all and there is no cold air coming through the vents.

I have already ordered a sensor as it was the cheapest solution to attempt. I have priced the fan motor at £22.85/free delivery and the PCB at £43.99/£3.98 delivery.

Should I just order both, or try one first? We don’t have another fridge freezer to store food in so would like to fix as soon as possible.

EDIT: Just had another look, here’s what I got:

Doing the fast freeze/quick cool test posted above, I get the following:

    1) Top and Bottom fans both running and blowing air.
    2) cold air coming from the coils at bottom (what the fan blows into)
    3) Humming noise from bottom of fridge freezer/ compressor

However, nothing is happening except a humming noise when starting the fridge freezer as normal.

Re: Beko AB910S American style Fridge Freezer problem

You may have a compressor or refrigerant fault on this one.

It may be cheaper to search the find me an engineer on this site to check it out before ordering parts.

The fan only works when the evaporator starts to get cold so if you can get the fan to run it is not a fan fault.

If the PCB is faulty then nothing works.

So it do sound like it may be the compressor or gas and this is not a DIY repair.

Re: Beko AB910S American style Fridge Freezer problem

Tried searching for an engineer, but none in my Area. I am in East Lothian which I just outside Edinburgh however the closest was in Kilmarnock.

Do you know roughly what a repair quote would be around for a compressor fault/replace? Local white goods repair companies on google are charging £40-£45 per hour labour.
