    Our 7 yr old Hotpoint Aqualtis AQXXL129PM has a lot of rust around the detergent drawer. It is flaking & specs getting into the drawer / wash.

    Eventually Hotpoint said it could be repaired at €149 as the whole cabinet needs replacing. 90 day guarantee on repair.

    I’ve 2 questions that I’d appreciate advice on please.
    1) Could this rusting be repaired ourselves without replacing cabinet
    2) Repair or replace with a another machine (249-349 max cost)

    Machine is used 2-3 times per day

    Hotpoint initially said it is cosmetic, not covered under any warranty or it could not be repaired but I argued it. Then they said it could be repaired & is not cosmetic but would take 3-4 hrs labour

    as with any steel panel, if the rust is not so bad as to make a hole, it can be rubbed down and respayed.
    you will have to loosen components like door boot, door lock and soap draw. you will have to mask off what you dont want the spray

    just like spraying a car but thankfully a lot smaller

    As above, but also use a rust killer before painting
