just got new condenser dryer, a Hotpoint CTD40P, which has a water collection tray in the top of the machine. When I do some drying this remains empty and the water just runs out of the bottom of the machine instead. Why is the water not going up to the collection tray? Is there anything I can try before I have to call out the man in the van? – thought it may be that the floor was uneaven and the collection tray was overflowing, but it is now on level surface and I’m still having the same problem. 🙁

the water is collected at the bottom then is pumped up to the top water chamber. check to see it any of the hoses or the hose connections are loose at the back,
if nothing is obvoius call out hotpoint as it is under guarantee.Clyde 8)

I just took it back and got a full refund 🙂 , It’s supposed to be new after all.

Oh dear you are making life complicated now….. ” Condenser Dryer with sensor?”….well if you insist then the Bosch WTL6106GB is a nice piece of kit, not cheap but does the job 😉
Vented dryers are a much more efficient and far far more reliable but you will need an outside wall and vent fitting 🙁 Condenser dryers need lots of regular user maintenance as well (unlike vented where you only need to clean out the lint filter) and when the electronic autosensing device fails….oh dear, better take out an extended warranty just in case 😀

which vented dryer do you recommend and where can i get the drill bit to drill the massive hole in my garage which is where it will have to go! I must say the hotpoint condenser put me off, I want a reliable machine vented or not, tips on fitting please as well if you could

I’m pleased you told me where you plan to put it 🙂 ‘Cos an electronic dryer in a garage is to be well avoided due to the fluctuating ambient conditions within unheated buildings, low temps and damp the main problems 🙁
You are best to fit a cheaper ‘timed’ vented dryer in a garage, try to ensure frost-free conditions and the dreaded damp of course 😉
Bosch again do nice machines, any model in the mid price-range is to be recommended. You can get the tools to put a hole in the garage wall from you local ‘Tool Hire Shop’, just tell them what you intend to do and they will advise accordingly. You can buy a wall vent kit from B&Q, Focus or Homebase to suit.

Of course they are, anything bought on the Internet is cheap, with no recall if it fails to be delivered on time or is damaged in transit. Plonked on your doorstep for you to sort by yourself. 🙁 You get what you pay for that’s for sure. However if you buy from your local independant retailer, the price is still the same (almost at least) but for that you get personal service and much much more….!
Your choice..we have done our bit thus far for you (we independants that is) 😀
