ParticipantGood morning all. Apologies for the long post. We have a problem with the above make/model. We were waiting for the main oven to heat up when there was a bang followed by a puff of smoke. All the electrics tripped. After resetting the electrics, we found the main oven to be dead – no element, fan or timer operating. The second oven and the ignition for the gas hob all fine. I had previously replaced the element some 18 months earlier, but in that instance it was just the element that didn’t work – the fan & timer were ok. Easy diagnosis and repair. This time, after isolating the electrics at the main fuse box, I pulled the oven out and removed the back to remove the element so I could have a close an proper look at it. It looked fine, and using a circuit tester, showed it was a closed circuit. Looking at the rear panel, I noticed that there were two burn marks just inside the panel (where the element connectors are) and the wires to the connectors were very loose – so loose they separated very easily. I should point out that the element that was replaced last year was not an OEM part and that the connectors on the element were longer, so probably contributed to the problem described. Anyway – made the connectors all good, reconnected and restored power. Same problem. Researching this, it points me in the direction of a number of possible causes …. the element itself, the fan motor, the thermal overload cut out, the thermostat or electronic control board. All individually costly – if I use OEM parts, which given my experience so far I will probably end up doing !! Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts? The thermal overload cut out was found/tested and seems Ok. Any advice. guidance appreciated. Thanks in advance

Check the control switch and take a look at it to identify it as it is all too possible that’s the issue.
Ideally you need to know how many function there are and the general design of the switch to identify it.
If it’s not that blown then the clock and a TOC if fitted are likely culprits.

Thanks for the very quick reply. I will check that out. Would it have been the ‘bang’ that blew the control switch, or the control switch blowing causing the bang in the oven? Thanks again !

Could be, you’d need to check it to see but if it has gone then they can go quite spectacularly.

Hi. I have removed both the clock (digital) and the control switch. Visually they look fine. No sign of damage or burning on either. The TOC looks visually ok and is a closed circuit according to my circuit tester – although there is something rattling internally when shaken. Given what happen, would you see the timer as being the primary suspect? Thanks again in advance.

If there’s power into the clock and none out of it along with no display etc, it’s a pretty fair bet that’s the problem.
If it’s this one, it’s not hugely common to go but, not exactly unknown either: http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/a44630-b … onic-timer

Hi – back for a little more guidance please. I ordered and have today received from UK White Goods a new element and timer. Everything is dismantled, and ready to be refitted. but I have a problem with the new timer. It is the right one, but its a different make, and therefore the connections are in a different position. I have had a look at the new and old, for similarities, but they are different.
The old one had the following markings (from L to R):
RFL2 (2a) – Blue cable
RFL2 (2) – Blue cable looping from P2
RFL1 (1a) Red cable
RFL1 – Red cable
P2 – 2x blue cables. 1x looping to RFL2 (2)The new timer (L to R)
